How to get a Birth Certificate in Kerala?

When a child is born, the hospital authorities will register the birth at local self government. Local self government bodies are Grama Panchayat, Municipality or Corporation.Birth Certificate can be obtained from the Grama Panchayat / Municipality / Corporation Office on submitting application.Application can be on a white paper with Court Fee stamp worth Rs 5 affixed on it. If the name of the child was not added in the birth registration process, a separate form available free of cost from the office should be completed and attached along with the application. To add the child's name , the parents should apply jointly at the respective local self government body office.Both of them should have identity proofs. Registrar has the discretion to accept application from one of the parent in situations where both the parents cannot jointly apply.If the parents are dead, the legal guardian can submit the application. If the person who want to register his / her birth is an adult, he can apply in his own name.
